Have PATIENCE
You will have to practice the art of patience. Being a parent can be a little bumpy at times. Your kids will push you to limits you never knew existed. If you struggle with practicing patience, you can always pray for patience from God. I find myself having patience for others but struggled to find patience for my little ones.
When you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, take a few moments to cool off, and don’t let your current situation get the best of you. You can try to take a relaxing shower to help calm your mood. Practicing the art of patience is not something that you will get right away, it takes time.
Here are some books on patience that may help you:
This post has been updated, so I currently have two kids. My son knows all the buttons to push. When this happens, I have to go to my mommy space to take a quick break and recoup myself.
Be the kind of parent you needed as a child
Think back to when you were a kid. Do you remember a specific time when you were afraid or sad? How did your parents respond to what you were feeling?
If you can think about what you were feeling as a child, it will help you respond to your child in a more sensitive way. It will also help you to understand what your little one is going through.
I have a lot of mom guilt over this tip. Sometimes as a busy mom, I feel like I’m not spending enough time with my kids. I try hard to give them all my attention, but I know that is impossible.
You can try listening to your child more than you talk. For example, whenever my daughter wants to talk, my first response is to answer her back quickly. This frustrates her; She just wants me to listen to what she has to say. Sometimes your kids are not always looking for a solution to their questions.
Giving your kids hugs, kisses, and positive affirmations are great ways to show them you care.
Enjoy every moment. They don’t stay small forever
Time flies when you’re a kid. Love on your babies as long as you. Take pictures or videos, and capture as many moments as you can.
Create as many fun memories as possible while your kids are young. Those moments will last for a lifetime. Before I had my kids, I would always hear other moms say that time goes by fast when raising children. This statement couldn’t be any further from the truth. Please don’t think that I am exaggerating when I say do all you can to make every moment count.
I want to start creating fun traditions with my little one. As a child, my family always took a trip to Detroit. I never had much fun while I was there, lol. The memories of getting there are what I treasure the most. The car ride with my family and all the laughter and fun we had during the drive was the best thing in the world.
Your kids are not looking for perfect memories. They will enjoy the time that got to spend with you.

Toddler Tantrums
Don’t stress out and get angry when your toddler throws a tantrum. They are figuring out how to express their emotions. They may not yet know how to communicate what they want and need.
I have a blog post on how to communicate with your toddler.
I still struggle with this one. Keeping your cool will be tough, but stick to your guns, and you will see results. I have found success with giving my little ones time-outs. Yelling does me no good. I just end up frustrated, and my kids just look at me like I have lost my mind.
Take your little ones out to play
Going outdoors is a great way to let off any built-up stress and is a good way to let your little one exert any extra energy.
My kids love going to the park or taking walks around our neighborhood. Get the kiddos off their electronic devices and get them outside.
Set Daily Routines
Establish a bedtime routine and stick to it. Your baby or toddler will adjust, and it will become easier. I have a blog post if you need guidance on setting up a good routine for your child. How to get your kids on a routine that actually works
Have fun
Just have fun. You don’t have to be the “serious” parent all the time. Laugh and be silly with your kids. Think of fun adventures you can go on even if you are on a budget or find yourself being busy. There are tons of ways to have fun. My kids love when I watch them play or interact with them during playtime. It’s not something you have to spend hours doing. Your kids will cherish whatever amount of time you spend with them.
I love being silly with my little ones. We have a favorite commercial that no matter where we are in our home, we stop what we are doing and dance to it.
Call for help
If you’re feeling too overwhelmed, call for help. If you have family and friends that are willing to watch your child or children while you get a break, LET THEM.
Let’s say that you don’t have anyone, join a mommy support group or any kind of parent support group. A support group will allow you to hear what others are doing to get through the rough humps.
